Hello!
My name is Leslie Estrella. I was born in the border town of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, and moved to the US when I was five. Growing up I excelled in AP courses and extracurricular activities with mainly A’s and B’s. When deciding on a career path I knew I wanted to pursue something that allowed me to express my voice in a colorful style that would intrigue others and makes me happy. This is when I started to publicly show my artwork through my Instagram. The amount of positive feedback I got from my family and friends made me realize I was on the right path. Being an artist has its ups and downs but being able to impact our audience is what keeps me going. The Art School at Arizona State University gave me a great learning environment where I could further develop my skills and connect with other fellow artists. These past four years have made me not only appreciate others’ work but helped me express my voice through mine. I hope to continue developing my skills so I can inspire others to ignite their creative flame.
Art is the closest we get to meeting ourselves. There is a reason everyone has tried to create art at least once in their lives. It’s an escape from reality and an entrance to yourself. As an artist, I always hear that people stop being creative as they grow up. Why is that? Art isn’t limited by time but by effort and inspiration. We all have a creative flame it just takes dedication and inspiration to reignite it. It gives us the chance to explore our inner thoughts and see how creative they can be.
I strive to inspire creative minds just like they inspired me. In my work, I always strive for the audience to connect with my work. This could be through color, form, or theme. I use a variety of different media depending on what I am trying to portray. My art tends to be vibrant and consists of characters with a story behind every piece. When working on an art piece I first ask myself what I want my audience to get from it. When I’m finished I ask did I accomplish my goal. Creativity is what makes us humans yet not many of us tend to appreciate it. My goal in being an artist is to reignite the passion for creating in everyone.
